HeatSmart Newton is a community-based, volunteer-led, clean heating and cooling initiative to help residents improve home comfort, lower their energy bills, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Managed by the City of Newton, HeatSmart Newton is an official program of the Newton Climate Action Plan. The initiative began with a grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center in 2020.
Heating, cooling, and hot water from residential building accounts for nearly 38% of Newton’s greenhouse gas emissions. By promoting the adoption of efficient heat pump technology, HeatSmart Newton is working to help our community reduce its greenhouse gas emissions as we move toward our Climate Action Plan goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
